In Memory

As we approach our August reunion, Bill Jones, along with several other classmates have worked hard to find those classmates we have not heard from over the years. As a result, they have identified a number who have died. All, along with any information we have have been posted to In Memory.

In addition, three classmates have died recently, and their obituaries have also been posted to In Memory.

David Hubbard Moore of Apex, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on April 22, 2025.  A celebration of life for David will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511, followed by a reception at 11:00 AM. ln lieu of flowers please give to Dorcas Ministries where David volunteered for many years or the Samaritans Purse. 

David D. Hawkins passed away peacefully at home in Raleigh on Friday, March 28, 2025 and a service to honor and celebrate his life was held on April 8 at Hayes Barton Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The American Diabetes Association, Alzheimer’s Research, in honor of David’s mother or Hayes Barton Baptist Church.

Larry D. Giles passed away March 15, 2025 at Duke Hospital. His life was celebrated on April 12 at Beacon Baptist Church in Raleigh. 

Arnold Bennie Goetze Jr. of Raleigh passed away at his home on July 19, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tammy Lynn Center or the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

Dennis L. Falter Jr. of Wake Forest, NC passed away on March 12, 2023, and in lieu of flowers, his family requested donations to the American Heart Association.  

Sandra Jean "Sandy" Bolt of Interlachen, Florida passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka following an extended illness. A memorial service was held on November 12 at First Church of God in Palatka.

Carolyn Edwards (Bancroft) passed away September 25, 2020 in Wilmington, NC after a fight with cancer. In memory of Carolyn, Donations in her memory can be made to Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center or Little Chapel on the Boardwalk.

Marcus Leonard Gaffney III passed away at home in Raleigh, NC on November 8, 2018. 

Robert E. (Bobby) Dixon Jr. passed away in 2018. 

Lura Edna Zachary passed away in 2014.

60^th Reunion
August 15, 16, & 17, 2025

It is going to happen!  The Broughton Reunion Committee has been meeting, and we are planning a wonderful weekend to celebrate our 60^th Reunion.

Details will follow soon as plans fall into place but mark your calendars now and plan to join us.  This may be our last “official reunion” so come enjoy this chance to see your friends from our Broughton days.

Have you wanted to communicate with class members as a group rather than individually? If so,  you will be pleased to learn that we have enabled the "User Forum" feature of the website! 

We have added this page to provide a place for members of the class to post comments and questions and have a way to connect. 

You are able to:

1. submit your contributions, which will be approved by site administrators and posted to the forum. 
2. propose new topics under existing forum(s) (currently only one general one), or submit a proposal for a new forum to be created.
3. set up your preferences for receiving notification of new postings as well contribute to any of the discussions.

We are new to this, so bear with us as we figure it all out!

Appropriate Use of Our Class Website

This site was created to be a place for the Broughton Class of 1965 to connect with one another to share memories and catch up, as well as to provide updates about class reunions. In addition, it serves as a resource for updated information about classmates.

It is not the place for posting or debating political, religious or other personal opinions and positions. In the event that such posts are made and deemed to be inappropriate by the site administrators, the posts (and any associated commentary) will be deleted. Anyone repeatedly making such posts may lose access to the site.

This virtual gathering space has served us well since our 50^th reunion  as we have shared personal news and sent birthday greetings to one another. It has also been a place to remember and honor those we have lost. We look forward to it continuing to serve those purposes.
